Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - NOT !

Apparently it does not take much these days to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You are not required to be a rock musician or even influential in the genre. For instance check out the 2009 Nominees:

Jeff Beck - Good choice. My personal Favorite as a matter of fact.
Chic - DISCO?? No disco - please no freaking disco!
Wanda Jackson - Yeah, whatever.
Little Anthony and the Imperials - At least it ain't disco but this is NOT a rock band nor were they even remotely influential on the rock scene.
Metallica - Not TOO bad of a choice. They still have nothing on Beck.
Run-D.M.C. - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Stooges - At least they were influential in the early rock scene, but they still sucked.
War - This is not a freaking rock band either.
Bobby Womack - Maybe the Soul Train awards but I don't see "rock" anywhere in his autobiography either.

Then again what do you expect. You know they were going down hill as soon as they inducted MADONNA.

Happy Birthday, Jonna

Jonna"Doooooonnnnn! It's time!"

I still remember when, on this date thirty-something years ago, Libby came scurrying into the living room with Mom's suitcase, yelling for Pops that it was time to take Mom to the hospital.

I am not sure how Jonna survived childhood what with all the stuff her big sisters did to her, but to us she was like a real-life baby doll. We changed her diapers, encouraged her to develop her own vocabulary that was largely incomprehensible outside the family and in general thought she was the cutest thing ever.

Happy Birthday, Jonna. I hope you have had a good day, and I hope you got chocolate cake.

Runnin' On Empty

In the aftermath of Ike, the Colonial Pipeline that supplies Tennessee's gas is running at only 25% capacity. So what does my fellow Tennesseans do? Why, they panic like very one else of course and rush out to the pumps to wait in long lines with tempers flaring, thus unnecessarily burning more fuel and suck them gas stations dry. I have never seen anything like this since the Carter administration. I refused to buy into it and did not top off my tanks this week. No problem, it was not my week to drive the carpool and there was still plenty of gas to be found in my neck of the woods, as long as you wanted to pay a premium price for it. Plenty of gas station closures were to be found else where but once the initial panic subsided it wasn't all that bad. One week later and another crop of scary news stories about our ever dwindling supply they have done it again. And this time they reported that there was still gas north of town. Meaning my neck of the woods. I'm trying very hard not to join the mass hysteria myself as my tank is getting low. I'm going to have a real fun vacation now. I suppose Gary and I will have to settle for watching the grass grow or the turkeys cross the road. Thanks a lot buttheads.

Caitlin Turned 18

: O

I thought about her all day yesterday but didn't get home from work 'til close to 10 and didn't want to call that late.

Just wanted to wish her a HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY, even if it's late, and reminder her that now that she's legal it's all on her. She can buy cigarettes, porn, sign contracts, vote or go to jail, do things that will make her a winner or, well, you know...so NO PRESSURE, Caitlin. Hope your birthday was happy and that this is your best year yet.

Once again our family historian has been derelict in his duties. Thanks to the power of Wikipedia, I am almost as good as Adrian and can confidently tell you that on the day Caitlin was born, Lichtenstein became a member of the United Nations. Isn't that special?

Other historic events taking place on this day include:

1837: "Stationery and fancy goods emporium" Tiffany was founded. 171 years later they still know how to make the best bling.

1971: Lance "LIVESTRONG" Armstrong was born.

1974: Patti Hearst is arrested after a year on the FBI's Most Wanted List. Most of you are too young to even have a clue who she is or why she was arrested. Google her - it's crazy.

1998: ICANN was formed. We all owe a debt of gratitude to ICANN. If it weren't for them we'd have to remember 66.98.145.18 if we wanted to order pizza online.

Happy Birthday Sis!

Nyah! Nyah! Teresa and Suzanne are a year older and I'm no-ot! I hope you are both having a good one. With a big fat piece of chocolate cake. Since Adrian is slacking in his duties, in honor of this glorious day here is the latest installment of "This Day in History":

608 - St. Boniface IV begins his reign as Catholic Pope, and altar boys have never been safe since then.
1821 - Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador gained their independence from Spain.
1890 - Author Agatha Christie was born
1928 - Bacteriologist Sir Alexander Fleming notices a bacteria-killing mold growing in his laboratory which would later be developed into penicillin.
1935 - The Nuremberg Laws deprived Jews of their citizenship and made the Swastika the official emblem of Nazi Germany.
1946 - Actor Tommy Lee Jones was born
1965 - Green Acres debuted on TV
1973 - Delta Dawn by Helen Reddy topped the charts. It was a very bad year for music.
1984 - Prince Harry was born and thank God he takes after his Mother!
1993 - Liechtenstein prince Hans-Adam II disbands parliament. Too bad we can't get him to do the same to congress!
2000 - The motion picture "This is Spinal Tap" was released. Another one of many low points in cinematic history

Love Ya!

To the original Batman theme: chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-NOOGA!!!

Talk about getting off-topic. Suzanne and I talked yesterday about when we could get everyone to meet up in Chattanooga for another girls day out (and lets not forget Daniel, with his Y chromosome!) I told her I would blog it, but lo and behold, once I sat down at my computer I completely forgot what it was I was supposed to be doing. Since I am unemployed at the moment, no particular day is better than another, but if we decide to meet up on a Sunday, 9/28 and 10/05 are out for Suzanne. Let me know what you think!!!

What's new with Amanda you ask???

So it's been awhile since I've posted and I figured I'd give you guys (girls, whatever...) some pictures to take a gander at...

Shortly after I got back to Atlanta, I started working for a crappy (possibly shady) company, where I spent all day driving around, burning expensive gas. Along the way I saw some interesting things, like this mountain of glass:

This was at a glass recycling plant that I marketed to, and I was amazed at how high this mountain of bottles was.

A few weeks later, I was driving and noticed three stray puppies with their ribs poking out, scavenging for food. I felt so sad when I saw them, I knew they would get hit by a car if they didn't die of starvation first. When I called animal control, they told me they didn't know when they could get out to the area to pick them up, and the puppies might be gone by the time they sent someone. They asked me if there was any way I could bring them in my car, and I replied "I am actually working right now, and I'm wearing slacks and heels and I don't think I'd even be able to get them in my car." So what did I do? Pulled over and went after the puppies. They barked at me from a distance, too nervous to come close. I couldn't think of a way to lure them into my backseat, until I remembered that I had a small bag of potato chips in my console from when I had gotten Subway a few weeks earlier. Sure enough, with some coaxing and the help of salt & vinegar chips, I was able to corral all three pups in my back seat. Then the journey began...

I didn't realize that Douglas County animal control was in East Alabama, or I might have thought better of my undertaking. Apparently, one out of three dogs experience car sickness after eating salt and vinegar potato chips. That is exactly what I found out, when halfway there one of the cute little buggers yacked on my back seat. It was okay, they managed to clean up their mess by the time we arrived... which leads to the best part of the story...
When we got there, I went inside and told the workers who I was, and two ladies came outside to get the dogs. Guess they figured that since I was such a helpful person, bringing the pups there and all, that I wouldn't mind helping get them inside. Lady #1 pulled out puppy #1 and handed it to Lady #2, and she took the pup inside. Then Lady #1 pulled out puppy #2, who apparently had managed to drink his weight in fluids right before I rescued them. He tinkled a few drops on my car seat as she was passing him off to me, and then let a few more drops go on my leg. I walked the rest of the way holding him out three feet in front of me- I was supposed to be working after all, and my nice slacks were being used as a puppy pad. When I got to the door, I had to hold the dog like a football in one arm so I could open the door with my free hand, and that is when he decided to finish answering nature's call. The dog peed all over my leg. Guess no good deed goes unpunished, right? I heard through some neighbors a few weeks ago that the dogs were still in the pound, but were no longer starving. I hope they have each found a loving forever-home, even the one who peed on me...

So you can see I spent the time at my job well. Which is good, because I hated the place and no longer work there. Now I have been unemployed for almost 5 weeks... I was scared when I didn't find work after the 2nd week, the 3rd really made me nervous, and the 4th week just plain sucked. Now I have decided that God may not want me in the staffing business. So back to school I go. Only this time, I am not stopping until some guy wearing a floor-length black dress with a silly hat gives me a degree so I can make the big bucks. If I work hard and do well, I can even transfer to GA Tech and get my master's in 5 years. So there it is, I have detailed the beginning stages of my get-rich-slow scheme. Not as exciting as getting rich quick, but I don't think that was in the cards for me anyways...

What The?

I am seriously starting to wonder about my net worth. As I was getting ready for work I realized that the six dollars I spent on my dog's brush was triple the price of my own personal little dollar store hairbrush. Why, I don't know. Besides being remarkably similar in construction Sheba does not have a job, cook or do laundry so why should she have a six dollar hair brush when I don't? Anyway, it brought to mind something else to mind that my old boss told me years ago as She was paying the $15 license fee that the City of Gardena charges them for the privilege of having me work in their jurisdiction for a year. "Do, you know that they charge me more for Puff's license than they do for yours?". Okay, so Gardena thinks a Bichon Frisé is worth more than me even though Puff never held a job in her brief little life. Now, on top of that I received a paycheck stub for the amount of zero dollars and zero cents. WTF???

Sprint 500

I got to fill in at the last minute at the Richmond, VA race this weekend. We all had a blast but I am glad to be home. Alas, I still was not allowed to jump in the Cat car and do a 360 in the parking lot. I didn't even get to lay one little finger on it. I did however get to meet Richmond's finest. I wasn't paying attention returning from the pit tour and stepped over the white line so I got chewed out something to the tune of "I SAID do NOT cross the WHITE LINE!" by a police officer. Oops.

The closest I will ever get to any race car:
