Earned Incom-poop Schmax Kredit
Mom said I probably qualified for that Earned Income Credit-thingy, so I tried to see if I did...but I don't understand anything! (I think...)
Can anyone tell me (in normal 20-year-old terms) what it means and how you qualify???
Becuase it seems (to me) like it's only something for poor people with kids and I aint got no kidz... (<---Bad Grammar!!!)

It used to just be for working poor parents but it's been broadened. However, you would not qualify because you're under 25 and you have been smart enough not to get yourself knocked up (don't laugh - that's a big deal in this family).
Here are the some answers from the IRS.
You should be able to go online to TurboTax.com or some other site and do your taxes for free. That would tell you probably everything you're entitled to claim.
Do not, under any circumstances, do that so-called rapid refund crap. If you do it normally and e-file you'll have any refund you're due back in 10 days or less.
I had no idea you had to be 25 if you didn't have kids. I thought you just had to earn under 4K or some similarly low amount. Even if you don't qualify for EIC, you still come out better financially. You little darlings do not come cheap!
Listen to your Mom and Aunty - you can still fill out your federal return free online and it is easy. If you go to irs.gov (make sure you go through this site first or you'll get charged), there is a link to free tax preparers websites. It only took me about a half an hour and I had the money deposited in my bank about in 10 days.
Most places make you pay for state tax preparation. In fact, they tried to sell me some at the "bargain" price of 24 bucks, never mind that TN doesn't even have a state income tax. I suppose websites are only as smart as their programmers.
I'll remember that for next year... I was too scared to do it myself and went to H&R Block for my taxes.
"I got people!"
