Happy belated Thanksgiving to Y'all too! We ate, and ate, and ate, had a good time, visited soem of Gary's family and I shopped at the crack of dawn this morning so now I'm going to take a long nap and contemplate all the things I am thankful for. Family of course is number one. I'm also making a mental note to make sure the turkey is roasted the right side up next tiem around. I still haven't figured out why I did that.

As usual, we had too much food - if there is such a thing. Once David decided to come to town a couple of weeks ago, and Amanda decided not to leave town after all a couple of days ago, the party was on.

I invited my friend Angela to come over and it didn't even occur to me until the last second that she had family in town. It made for a lively gathering. I thought we'd have a group of six and it turned out to be ten - and we STILL had too much food!

Amanda and Steve brought their cute little puppy, Buttons. We had to keep the Greyhounds away from Buttons because KiKi thinks he looks too much like the bunnies she used to run after and she behaves very badly. Fortunately it was a nice day out so the hounds stayed in the backyard a good while. I'm sure they were disappointed to be banished from all the good food they would undoubtedly have sampled. But I took Angela's two-year-old grandson Shaun outside for a little while and let him feed bites of turkey to Sara and KiKi, who couldn't get enough.

Everyone was a good sport about the fact that I have NO dining room table or chairs - Janet brought over Grandma's old card table and some folding chairs, and Angela brought more chairs. Janet brought stuff from Honey Baked Ham and Amanda made a tasty pecan pie. I made several side dishes and while I missed having a traditional roasted turkey I did not miss the work. I may do one for Christmas or New Year's.

I agree with Lisa and Jonna about being thankful for family. I thought Janet and I would be the only ones in town and that getting together for a Thanksgiving meal under those circumstances would, for me anyway, magnify that fact. So I had visions of us serving meals to the homeless at the annual Hosea Feed the Hungry dinner. That would have been a fine way to spend the day (I did make a donation to them, BTW), but I have to admit I'm glad I spent it around family - both blood and borrowed.

I hope that one day, before too long, it won't be such a big deal for all of us to get together in one place for a big feast.
