Live From Goodlettsville

As Ya'll heard, we had a tornado rip through our city two weeks ago. Gary was huddled in the basement with Lea Anna, Daniel and two of our neighbors when it hit. The good thing is that everyone came out with out a scratch on them. Our old house is still standing, but between the foundation damage and all the glass & debris inside, that's about all I can say about it. The van had all but two windows busted out too, so we are down to one car for now. We were lucky though. Just on the other side of the main road about a quarter mile away, several square blocks were completely razed. We have since moved on into a cozy (okay, cramped) apartment. On a brighter note, my computer lives on. The TV and VCR too, but unfortunately the Barney tapes survived. Of course just a couple of hours after it hit there were a bunch of idiots that came out of the woodwork and were walking up and down the street taking photos. Gee, if they were that morbid why didn't they go up the road to Gallatin and film the dead victims too while they were at it?! What is odd is how it ripped up every tree on the property, downed all the phone & power lines, yet my flimsy plastic chairs were still sitting virtually undisturbed on the front porch.

Here's another interesting thing that popped up in the aftermath -

Gary and I kept getting mail (what looked like collection letters, but we never cared about it enough to actually open them up) for this guy Clarence Brown ever since we moved into the house on Depot St. One day last June, Gary steps outside the house to find it surrounded by Metro's finest who were looking for - you guessed it - Clarence Brown. He rented the house before we did and apparently he was pawning stolen merchandise using his old address that of course was our current address at that time. It did not take too long for Gary to clear things up and for the police to go on their way. So anyway, Saturday afternoon while we were at the old place packing, phone service was finally restored. Our first phone call in a week was a collection agency looking for Clarence-Freaking-Brown! He was using our phone number too! I think when things settle down I will change our phone number too. We also get numerous calls for Domino's Pizza.

WOW. That's all I can say.

Hope you'll have another house to replace your "cozy" apartment before too long, but I'm with you: the thing to be thankful for is that everyone was okay.

Well Scarecrow, I'm a little short on cash right now, but have a coupon for a dozen donut holes that I'm willing to part with. The whole thing was funny in a warped kind of way, but I'd still like to pound on the schmuck just on general principle. Here's an old news article that appeared in connection with it:
