In his latest efforts to fulfill our Commander-In-Chief's personnel requests without pissing on our fellow service members who are just now settling back into life at home, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has announced the extension for all currently deployed active-duty soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan from 12 to 15 months. This means I will miss another holiday season, another set of birthdays, and another three months of my wife and kids. To everyone who has sent me stuffs and are still waiting for a thank-you, I apologize. It is very hard to do much with what we are given. Y'all take care and I'll write when I can.

So I've heard. His reasoning was something to the effect of this giving the soldiers more time at home after their tours to be with thier families, yadda yadda yadda. Um, Mr. Gates - Why don't you try a nice little 15 month tour in the gulf?
As for the thank yous, you do what you can and don't even worry about the rest. You're still my nephew and you're still cool. Allthough when you DO get a chance some feed back would be good - 'cause if you hate something we'll never know and might keep sending you stuff you don't like. Repeatedly ;)
Well if you want to get a break you could try "accidentally" reveal some classified info. If you survive the courtmarshal you've just got a good 3or 4 months break...
