Can We Be Any Stupider Here in GA?

Okay now the Governor has asked that schools cancel classes on Monday and Tuesday so that we can conserve gasoline supplies.

For those of you who didn't hear about the freakin' idiots here in Atlanta that panicked because some loser started an e-mail rumor about all gas stations in the state closing at 4 p.m. a couple of days after Katrina hit, it was bad. Dumb-asses everywhere dropped what they were doing to run out and drain gas stations of every last drop of gasoline. Some unscrupulous gas station owners got away with charging over $5 per gallon for gas, and - as could be expected with mass stupidity in effect - some gas stations ran out.

Here we go again.

Okay, so now that the school kids are rejoicing over the possibility of two days away from the classroom, exactly what does this idiot think that is going to accomplish? My guess is more mass panick among the idiots who of course will take this as a sign to once again drain the last drop of gas out of all the stations across the state. Oh, and what about the Mom's who take this as a mini vaction with their kids and drive around town entertaining them? Surely they will not be using teleportation or wind power to take the kiddos to the mall. How much gas does He/She/It think will in reality be saved? Oh yes, and don't forget the headache of scrambling around at the last minute to find day care or unplanned absenses from work for many. Please tell me the rest of GA's legislature is not this stupid and will excersize some common sense and ax this. Oh my, I just love southern politics!

Perdue announced the requested closure somewhere around 3:00 or 4:00 this afternoon, so yeah - great consideration for those who have to worry about day care.

I didn't notice any completely ridiculous gas prices on my way home. One QuikTrip we passed tonight had all its pumps closed, however they also seemed to be working on something underground so the bagged-up pumps may have been unrelated to running out of gas.
