More Birthday Photos

This is the last set (for a while). So what's up with you all?

Happy (Belated) Birthday Daniel

So maybe I'm a little slow to post since Daniel's Birthday was almost three weeks ago, but time sure flies. Anyway, He turned ten May 5th and we had his party the Saturday after at the bowling alley in Springfield. I can't say who won since all the lanes shut down towards the end of our game and in the few minutes it took them to bring them back up, the pizza had arrived and all kids suddenly loosing interest in bowling. We also had an impromptu game of Frisbee at the end - I was able to get Daniel to slow down long enough to read the cards before tearing things open so I figured it wouldn't hurt to play with one of his toys before we left.

Sunset on the 'Brier

There are a few advantages to living on the edge of civilization. This is one of them. These were taken one evening early in May when the dogwoods were still blooming.

Highland Rim Speedway

Last night was "neighborhood night" at Highland Rim Speedway, a one third mile high banked race track just down the road in Ridge Top, TN. I've been to two Nascar races and while they were fun, I just do not have the patience or the attention span to sit through five hundred laps baking in the sun so this was right up my alley. Also a family friend was racing and with it being only two bucks for adult tickets, off we went. We totally had a blast. There was plenty of paint swapping going on and Daniel met up with two of his buddies so we hardly saw him the whole time.

Gypsy Ghoulash

I was just thinking about Mom today, tomorrow being Mother's Day and all, and I happened to just sit down reading her cookbook, titled " The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook" and one of the recipes was Gypsy Ghoulash. I thought I'd share it with everyone, in honor of Mom.

Gypsy Ghoulash

1 1/2 lbs of beef in slices of 1/4 inch thickness, cut in lengths of 1/4 inch width, browned in lard with 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon paprika and 1 tablespoon flour, 4 large onions sliced, 3/4 lb. potatoes sliced. When lightly browned add 2 cups red wine, 1 cup sour cream and enough bouillon to cover. Put in covered casserole in 375 degrees oven for one hour. Add 1/2 cup sour cream before serving. Serve with noodles. Serves 4.
