Holidaze

Janet called me yesterday and asked when everyone was coming. I had to admit I wasn't sure. So, who's heading to Atlanta, and when?

We'll have Christmas here. Amanda and Christina just got their own place and can only afford Top Ramen, so I feel sure we can count on them for dinner.

Not sure who might already know this but David is getting deployed again on Tuesday. So sad that this is happening right after little Alex was born. I am glad he was there with Luby and to spend some time with the baby before he has to leave, but I wish they would have honored their commitment to send him to school instead. There's a chance he could come back sooner than normal and go to school but it probably wouldn't be a good idea to get everyone's hopes up about that.

If you've only seen the picture of Alex that was posted here, you're missing out - Amanda and David took some great shots and posted them over on Facebook. Check them out if you're on Facebook.

We're probably not having a big to-do on New Year's Eve since it looks like everyone that is coming down is going home after the wedding. Let me know if I've got that wrong and we may rethink our plans. As most of you know, we'll have no room at the inn for the next several years, but the kitchen's still open for business : )

To the original Batman theme: chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-chatta-NOOGA!!!

Talk about getting off-topic. Suzanne and I talked yesterday about when we could get everyone to meet up in Chattanooga for another girls day out (and lets not forget Daniel, with his Y chromosome!) I told her I would blog it, but lo and behold, once I sat down at my computer I completely forgot what it was I was supposed to be doing. Since I am unemployed at the moment, no particular day is better than another, but if we decide to meet up on a Sunday, 9/28 and 10/05 are out for Suzanne. Let me know what you think!!!

What's new with Amanda you ask???

So it's been awhile since I've posted and I figured I'd give you guys (girls, whatever...) some pictures to take a gander at...

Shortly after I got back to Atlanta, I started working for a crappy (possibly shady) company, where I spent all day driving around, burning expensive gas. Along the way I saw some interesting things, like this mountain of glass:

This was at a glass recycling plant that I marketed to, and I was amazed at how high this mountain of bottles was.

A few weeks later, I was driving and noticed three stray puppies with their ribs poking out, scavenging for food. I felt so sad when I saw them, I knew they would get hit by a car if they didn't die of starvation first. When I called animal control, they told me they didn't know when they could get out to the area to pick them up, and the puppies might be gone by the time they sent someone. They asked me if there was any way I could bring them in my car, and I replied "I am actually working right now, and I'm wearing slacks and heels and I don't think I'd even be able to get them in my car." So what did I do? Pulled over and went after the puppies. They barked at me from a distance, too nervous to come close. I couldn't think of a way to lure them into my backseat, until I remembered that I had a small bag of potato chips in my console from when I had gotten Subway a few weeks earlier. Sure enough, with some coaxing and the help of salt & vinegar chips, I was able to corral all three pups in my back seat. Then the journey began...

I didn't realize that Douglas County animal control was in East Alabama, or I might have thought better of my undertaking. Apparently, one out of three dogs experience car sickness after eating salt and vinegar potato chips. That is exactly what I found out, when halfway there one of the cute little buggers yacked on my back seat. It was okay, they managed to clean up their mess by the time we arrived... which leads to the best part of the story...
When we got there, I went inside and told the workers who I was, and two ladies came outside to get the dogs. Guess they figured that since I was such a helpful person, bringing the pups there and all, that I wouldn't mind helping get them inside. Lady #1 pulled out puppy #1 and handed it to Lady #2, and she took the pup inside. Then Lady #1 pulled out puppy #2, who apparently had managed to drink his weight in fluids right before I rescued them. He tinkled a few drops on my car seat as she was passing him off to me, and then let a few more drops go on my leg. I walked the rest of the way holding him out three feet in front of me- I was supposed to be working after all, and my nice slacks were being used as a puppy pad. When I got to the door, I had to hold the dog like a football in one arm so I could open the door with my free hand, and that is when he decided to finish answering nature's call. The dog peed all over my leg. Guess no good deed goes unpunished, right? I heard through some neighbors a few weeks ago that the dogs were still in the pound, but were no longer starving. I hope they have each found a loving forever-home, even the one who peed on me...

So you can see I spent the time at my job well. Which is good, because I hated the place and no longer work there. Now I have been unemployed for almost 5 weeks... I was scared when I didn't find work after the 2nd week, the 3rd really made me nervous, and the 4th week just plain sucked. Now I have decided that God may not want me in the staffing business. So back to school I go. Only this time, I am not stopping until some guy wearing a floor-length black dress with a silly hat gives me a degree so I can make the big bucks. If I work hard and do well, I can even transfer to GA Tech and get my master's in 5 years. So there it is, I have detailed the beginning stages of my get-rich-slow scheme. Not as exciting as getting rich quick, but I don't think that was in the cards for me anyways...

You gotta keep 'em sep-a-ra-ted...

Some of you may already be aware, but for those of you who don't know...
Steve and I are separating, and after one year we can divorce (per NC law).
We tried counseling twice, and after almost four years together, it's evident that it was just a bad match. Now I get to go through the humbling process of moving back home to live with Mom, and trying to find a job and get back on my feet.
I've been going through this for a while now, which is why I have not really posted in a long time. Hopefully I will be able to readjust quickly and find a place for me and my pups. Now quick, someone post something funny to take my mind off of this!!!

Carjacked! (Well, almost...)

Yesterday, I was following my boss through Charlotte when we got stuck at a red light. Next thing I know, I see a guy on the sidewalk near me trying to look at my car without looking like he was looking at my car (are ya still with me?) I'm wearing sunglasses, so I keep my eye on him, thinking *great, I hate coming all the way down here and now this guy is gonna go and do something STUPID*. Sure enough, he walks in front of my car and up to my door and I'm thinking I'm about to floor it, hop the curb onto the sidewalk to my right and cut beside my boss to make a way illegal turn. Just then, the light turns green, my boss guns it and I'm right there behind her. Not a second later she's on the phone going *OH MY GOD, I SAW EVERYTHING, THAT WAS SOOOO SCARY* and I'm all like *OH MY GOD, I THINK I'M ABOUT TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK*. So, needless to say, I hate Charlotte. The rest of the drive back up to the office I kept hearing the new report stating that all crime rates have dropped in the QC except vehicle theft & break-ins. Yeah, duh, I figured that one out first hand. Needless to say, this weekend I'm getting a gun and enrolling in the class to get my concealed weapons permit...

On the Move

In about a month or two, Steve and I will be moving to North Carolina, where a fabulous job at a company called Weinig awaits. We've contacted a buyers' agent, and hopefully they will help us find the home of our dreams, with a two car garage, gas stove, garden bathtubs, and a fenced in yard for the puppies. Steve's a little stressed over the change, but I am excited enough for the both of us. I hate living in apartments, and can't wait.
I will be closer to my sister-in-law who is getting very pregnant, and I know when my brother-in-law leaves for Iraq she'll need help with my nephew, who is starting his terrible two's. I thought I would be a little closer to Suzanne, but it turns out to be three minutes farther away (Charlotte to Knoxville, vs. Atlanta to Knoxville on Google Maps) so that sucks. Small price to pay to move into my own house though.
Well, almost midnight, guess I should get some rest. If anyone wants to help with packing or moving, you know how to contact me :)

Tons of Fun

We went to Six Flags Over Georgia today and had a blast despite getting rained on intermittently. We were all wiped out except for Brandon, who was disappointed we were leaving before he'd ridden everything twice.

It was rainy and a little chilly at times, and Michelle and Christina were the only ones brave - or crazy - enough to want to ride Thunder River. They should have known better than to leave Brian, Amanda and Brandon behind, because those three were waiting at the Thunder River water cannons to soak the girls as they rode by.

It's not quite 8:30 now but I think I am going to hit the "Publish" button and then hit the rack. I'm beat!

housewifin' it

Well, it's now a matter of public record, I am a married woman. I kept it a secret for a while, hoping to replace my courthouse wedding with a real one, but the secret's out. I still want to have a real wedding ceremony, but planning it is proving harder than I thought and I don't know of a wedding planner willing to work within my budget.
For now, my plans are on hold, but since I have recently become unemployed (by choice) I have more time to devote to planning. I am really enjoying my time at home, but I need to get my resume together so I can find at least a part-time job. I have really been able to get our house in shape, but another week of this and there won't be much left to clean. Besides, a girl needs shopping money, right?
Well, there's not much else to tell, hope this wasn't too much of a shock to anybody. And hey, it could be worse...I could be a Democrat.

Amanda's Cute Doggie Pictures

Amanda, Buttons, Zipper and Neko hung out with Sara and Grayson while Brian and I went to visit his grandparents in Kentucky last weekend. I still need to post about that adventure, but only had a quick sec and wanted to share the cute pictures Amanda took (I stole them from her camera phone!) while we were away. Click on the picture to start the slideshow.

Rambling, Rocking

David headed back to Iraq on Monday after a couple of weeks of leave. I'm still waiting on blog posts about his & Liubinka's new four-legged family member, as well as seeing some of the video he shot with his new toy (a digital video camera). I hear he had a lot of catching up to do while on leave, so he'll get a pass...but only a temporary one!

Amanda is going to dog sit here for the weekend while I head to Kentucky with Brian & Co. to visit his grandma. Grandma hasn't been doing too well lately. I hear she's stubborn, independent and did what she felt like doing instead of what doctors told her she had to do (sound familiar?) to get/stay healthy. So after falling for something like the 57th time she has been in some sort of extended care facility and has been less than thrilled about being there and losing her independence.

I think Amanda will bring some or all of her puppies, making for a big ol' doggie sleepover. She will have to try to tame this pack into submission on her own - Steve has to work all weekend and will not accompany her. I don't think the dogs will give her too much trouble once they realize who is in charge of the treats.

The cold weather is making my skin dry out to the point of being itchy and painful. I never thought I'd say that given that I have battled a greasy face and varying degrees of acne all my life. Stuff changes as you age.

Lastly, on a note that's completely, absolutely unrelated to anything I just wrote, I have to share this video of KT Tunstall performing Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. The song was released last year, I believe, so you may have heard it. I bought it from the iTunes store a while back without knowing anything about the amazing way the artist put it together, because it just rocks. Even if you don't like this genre you have to give her props.

Go Mandy - It's Your Birfday!

I can hardly believe Amanda is 25. Okay, well - tomorrow she'll be 25. I always think about her birth beginning on Halloween because that's when I went into labor. It was a whole 'nother world back then.

I called Amanda on the way home tonight and she was shopping (that's my girl) for something to go with the dress she's planning to wear to the Marine Corps ball. It struck me as funny because I had been out shopping in the early evening on Halloween when I felt what I thought might be contractions. We sure as heck weren't going to any ball, though. She was looking for purple shoes, among other things, and that was proving difficult.

Amanda was Suzanne's first child as much as she was mine. She would run to Auntie Suzanne's first thing every morning once she was old enough to figure out how to slip out of the house without waking me up. She knew she could count on being spoiled rotten by her auntie.

She was - and still is - a fiesty, independent, opinionated, intelligent, beautiful and funny girl.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MANDA : )
